Don’t give up

Persistence is key to success. Being persistent influences the direction of our lives and keeps us in alignment with our values. Where there is persistence; discipline, courage and resilience exist as well as extraordinary and frequent rewards. Persistence may not result in the desired outcome each and every time – it’s like a muscle and the more it’s used the stronger it gets. Persistence is what’s required to stay on the path. To keep persistence strong we need to: ·      know our Why – Why we are persisting ·      create value-based directions, rather than goals ·      not let the things that don’t matter get in the way ·      allow some discomfort – that’s part of the journey ·      not be paralysed by fear of failure or success. There are millions of small steps on life’s journey. Some of these steps don’t go according to the plan but they are all part of the plan. Sometimes the journey changes unexpectedly but the destination can remain the same – if we persist. Those who persist experience the same challenges as those who quit – they just don’t quit! Like a muscle, with its memory stored in our brain – persistence too has memory. The…

Magnetic leadership

When it comes to good leadership getting ourselves ‘right’ to lead is imperative. The wrong person leading has a negative effect on individuals, culture, cripples growth and provides unsustainable outcomes. With the right person leading, the positive effect ripples through to families, business, and communities. It all starts with being the best individual we can be, leading by example and earning the right to lead! The journey of self-improvement never ends and at some point many will choose to share their knowledge to help others. But there are some with a driver’s license that haven’t learnt to drive well! So too in leadership – the title leader does not necessarily mean good leadership. To lead well, we must work on our attitude, knowledge and skills and lead by example, always living what we teach. In this rapidly changing world, we are faced with new challenges daily and, as leaders; we must continue to experience what others experience. Those who have walked the path you want to walk are truly the best to lead you to success. My good friend and clever thought leader, Gabrielle Dolan – author of Magnetic Stories, understands the power of magnetic stories connecting our customers and engaging…

Clever people delegate

Life is full for most – no arguments there! But why do some find life stressful while others seem to get things done, achieving and living a fulfilled life? The latter know that HAVING IT ALL is not doing it all. This is a key component to success – clever people delegate. It’s important to recognise problems and solve them quickly. But too often we are doing tasks that could be given to someone else so you can do the things that really matter – the high value tasks. A few years ago my practice had outgrown its level of support – not once but twice. On both occasions I made a decision to get help and not risk overwhelm, poor service to my clients and stagnating growth. This meant investing dollars back into the business. What price do you put on reducing stress by getting the help you need so we can focus on things that really matter? High achievers, living fulfilled lives don’t do it all – instead they: 1.    decide what are high value tasks and focus on these only 2.    decide what doesn’t need to be done 3.    decide what can be delegated 4.    have effective people to delegate to…

Your unique contribution

Being authentic is a very attractive quality but sharing our true selves can leave us feeling exposed. It takes commitment and courage to be genuine. My advice is to embrace your uniqueness, take a risk, stand out and be the real deal! Why do we hide? For some, it’s easier, safer and more comfortable to put up a façade. Consciously or unconsciously we can be trying to live up to others expectations – whether those expectations actually exist or not! Comparing ourselves to and copying others is a no win situation. When we are trying to be someone else, we lose what is special and unique about us. In the pursuit to be like others we lose our authenticity and become a counterfeit copy. An imitation is never as valuable as the real thing. Those who walk their own path are believable, trustworthy and stand out with uniqueness. And in a world of sameness and fitting in – that’s priceless! My good friend Janine Garner, author of From Me to We, understands the importance of standing out and being unique as a step towards commercial collaboration, future proofing our businesses, great leadership and personal success.
