Learn from the failures

True Believers expect setbacks. They know that life is full of many experiences, with some more difficult than others and some that cause setbacks. But with strong belief, conviction and commitment, True Believers bounce back quickly, progressing even further as a result of what they learn from challenging times. Our progress rests heavily on the way we see failure and the way we react to it. Those that have reached success have had failure after failure — of course it’s about what you learn from failure that matters. Was there a tough period for you in the last few years — a time when you were down in the dumps? Maybe you’re still doing it tough. The events, which determine these tough times, can sometimes be out of our control. What is in our control is how we choose to move forward after the tough time. If we stay down in the dumps for too long, it becomes a difficult place to leave and a safe place to stay. I’ve seen many people at their lowest point find the greatest and most unexpected gifts through their setbacks. Failures and setbacks may teach you valuable lessons that you might never have learnt otherwise. I say may because too often we don’t learn…

No room for excuses

I have a declaration to make – I cringe at excuses –my excuses and those of others! I’ve seen how making excuses can adversely affect life. When we make excuses we are saying that we are not responsible and that someone or something else is. I’m big on taking responsibility and I cringe at excuses — and I think you should too. For the record, my second biggest cringe is indecision — because both excuses and indecision are the two biggest deal breakers when it comes to creating your own success masterpiece. Most people strive to create a better life and although we know what action needs to be taken, sometimes we make excuses to avoid making decisions and do what needs to be done. Do any of these sound familiar?  I have to wait until…  I just don’t feel like it…  I’m too tired….  I don’t have the tools to…  It’s not my fault….  It’s not my problem….  I don’t have time…..   Nothing identifies a mediocre person more quickly than excuses. Successful people strive towards a result without excuses. When we stop making excuses we start taking responsibility and we get results. Because responsibility is the foundation of success, when we are intolerant of excuses…

Challenge existing ideas

Life satisfaction is greatly influenced by our mindset. Our state of mind, assumptions and beliefs are a powerful motivator determining our action or inaction. Success lies in our ability to challenge existing ideas, be open to learning and embrace the action required. Do you sometimes say, “That’s just the way I am” or “I’ve always done it that way?” Are you a ‘know it all’ — thinking you have learnt all you need? Do you have a fixed or growth mindset? After decades of research on achievement, Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck made groundbreaking findings on fixed and growth mindsets. She documented these in her book Mindsets — The New Psychology Of Success. Dweck says that a growth mindset creates the love of learning and the resilience that is essential for great success. Those with a growth mindset are motivated to exert effort and to outperform those with a fixed mindset. When we embrace growth, when we are open to learning, we find many solutions behind previously closed doors. True Believers have a growth mindset. They use the five qualities necessary for creating their own success masterpiece. Qualities of a True Believer 1. Expire the old stuff — move your life forward2. Undress ambition…

Decision time

Once you take responsibility for the life you want, making the right decisions is the next step. The decisions we make bridge the gap between believing something is possible and having something. But often there are many choices. To decide is to eliminate choice because either you decide or something or someone will decide for you. We all have a choice to be the leader in our decisions. In the words of American author, speaker, and pastor John Maxwell, “The question for every leader is not will my calendar be full but who will fill my calendar? Take charge of it or others will.” We often ask too many people for advice. Sometimes we ask the wrong people. We then get confused; we procrastinate and don’t end up making a decision at all. These three steps can assist in making your dream a reality: 1. Decide what you really want2. Plan how you are going to get there3. Stay focused and persist until you arrive. Although that may sound simple in theory, it takes the right mindset too. It’s important to say, “How can I”, by focusing forwards on what we really want, rather than saying, “This is why I can’t”. It’s about making the best choice — which doesn’t include making…
